With hundreds of active volunteers and less than 20 people on staff, volunteers are what make Alison Neighbourhood's misson possible.

Here are some of the fantastic ways you can get involved and make a lasting difference in your Alison Community: 

BREAKFAST CLUB VOLUNTEERS >

Time commitment: 7:00am - 9:45am | 1-3 mornings a week A filled belly with a healthy breakfast is important to a great day for our kids! Help us prepare and serve breakfast and morning activities for the amazing children in our community.

PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS >

Time commitment: Variable hours as available on weekday evenings. Do you have a passion for a sport, skill or activity and want to share with the neighbourhood? In order to provide enriching and varied opportunities close to home, we want to draw on the talents in our community to foster the skills in the neighbourhood. We need skilled and passionate volunteers like you to help us run our recreation programs this coming year. We are seeking those who want to volunteer their time to share their skills in activities such as ice skating, group sports, arts and crafts, gymnastics, dance, and cooking, just to name a few! Duties include: Help with program planning; what is happening in each class to develop skill, what resources are needed to make this happen Program support; provide guidance and leadership in program, share skills with other volunteers and staff as well as participants. Program evaluation; evaluate program interest and performance, make adjustments as needed.

OFFICE SUPPORT > 

Time commitment: Variable hours as available during office hours (Monday-Friday, 9AM - 4PM) Our office space is unique in that we are often doing something different every day! We are seeking individuals who want to contribute to the overall function of the organization, gain on-the-job experience while sharing their unique skills. The Office Support role can be adjusted to reflect the interests and skills of the volunteer, examples of duties can include: Program Support; planning activities, setting up classroom spaces, doing example crafts and connecting with community partners for collaborative experiences for our program participants. Marketing; create graphics (social media posts, posters), distribute flyers, put up posters, door-to-door outreach program Office Management; organize and order supplies, assist with photocopying and filing of records, front desk support.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS (18+) >

Time commitment: Meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the evening, either on Zoom or in-person. We are currently seeking dynamic, community-minded individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors. You are joining us at an exciting time as we begin to implement our Strategic Plan; have your say and make a direct impact on the future of the organization and the Alison neighbourhood itself. Support and oversee the Executive Director Ensure adequate resources for the organization; approve the annual operating budget, assist in fundraising efforts, provide proper financial oversight. Review and implement proposed policy changes; maintain by-laws, ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability. Professional development and networking opportunities in your community!

EVENTS COMMITTEE > *new this year* 

Time commitment: 2 evenings/month leading up to the event and event support Are you passionate about parties? Do you have or want to gain tangible experience in event planning? Unleash the party planner within and join us to help us prepare for select events this year. We are looking for a group of engaged community members to support the community events at ANCC this year in evening planning meetings as well as day-of event support. Attend planning meetings; collaborate with members of the neighbourhood to plan all elements of select events throughout the year. Homework; take on specific duties for the event and research/prepare the needed elements ahead of meetings. Event support; attend events and support designated stations, assist with set up and/or take down.

Frequently Asked Questions

> Do you accept high school students who are completing their 40 hours of community service? Of course! We welcome any students who have an interest in serving our community. During the application process we ask lots of questions to help us better understand each individual and schedule them in a program that best fits their interests.

> What are the requirements to become an Alison Neighbourhood Volunteer? In order to become a ANCC volunteer, you must be 13 years of age or older, in agreement with our mission, vision and values, and complete the ANCC volunteer intake process. Each volunteer role is unique and the specific requirements may vary depending on the position. However, we are passionate about finding a place for everyone that meets everyone's interests, talents, and passions!

> I'm not sure I can committ to volunteering. Can I try it for one day? Of course! If you would like to come as a guest we would be happy to pair you up with a current volunteer for a program so you can see what we are all about. We hope you'll love it so much you'll be signing yourself up to join the team :)
